Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Incident as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in Saturday’s tragic incident in Providence were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

She served as vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared words of sorrow on social media, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

His name was officially acknowledged by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a search at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was being released.
